Independence Day is right around the corner, and Amelia Island is donning red, white, and blue and putting up the bunting! Let’s talk about how amazing and easy it is to enjoy the 4th of July on Amelia Island.

Easy? Did she say easy?

I did! Envision 3 separate fireworks displays, all visible from your beach chairs set up on Fernandina Beach’s shores. Everyone, including your best friend (provided he/she’s on a leash per beach regulations), relaxing and oohing, ahhing together after a perfect island day.

Of course, that’s AFTER the Freedom Festival taking place at Central Park earlier in the day! From 10am – 2pm, enjoy live music, food vendors, games, slides, and face painting for the kids. Not to mention a Homemade Apple Pie contest and a Hot Dog eating contest! And no Independence Day would be complete without a nod to our men and women in uniform – head over to the Make-a-Video-to-the-Troops Booth and… make a video to the troops! Admission is free and all are welcome to that great community event.

If you’re staying on through the weekend, don’t miss Fort Clinch’s Union Garrison! Held every first weekend of the month, this fun and family-friendly event is a treat. Featuring living history interpreters, powder artillery demonstrations, medical demonstrations, and soldier drills, the Fort Clinch staff recreates life as it was during the time of the Civil War.
