If you are looking for something fun to do the first weekend of May, look no further than Amelia Island! The annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival will be held here in the Historic District of Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island. Fernandina Beach is the birthplace of the modern, motorized shrimping industry, and it is celebrated each year with this event. The Shrimp Festival is also named one of the top 20 events by the Southeast Tourism Society and has a little something for everyone.  The origin of the Shrimp Festival was an annual spring shrimp boat race, during which the shrimpers’ wives served shrimp dishes. Today the festival still includes shrimp boats and great food with an array of vendors selling all sorts of shrimp dishes and delicious sides! The festival is kicked off Thursday evening by the Pirate Parade, hosted by the Residence Inn Amelia Island. The hotel will have a large trolley for the employees and guests to ride on and enjoy participating in the parade! There will also be a pirate invasion, live music on the harbor front, fireworks, Miss Shrimp Festival pageant, and an assortment of booths displaying all mediums of fine art and crafts. You don’t want to miss this fun filled time for the whole family! Contact us to  book your stay at the Residence Inn Amelia Island and experience the fun of the 49th Annual Shrimp Festival!
