That moment when years’ worth of teamwork and focus pays off.

The team at the Residence Inn by Marriott of Amelia Island, Florida is still over the moon about the honors our General Manager brought home from the Residence Inn General Manager’s Conference last month.

The Inn’s General Manager, Bob Hartman, was chosen as the Service Excellence General Manager of the Year out of 675 Residence Inn properties worldwide. Criteria for the Service Excellence award are based on a GM’s focus on exceptional customer service, outstanding service stories exemplifying the Residence Inn culture of delivering ‘Service So Memorable’, and more. The award is well-deserved and reflects Bob’s consistent focus on delivering exceptional guest experiences and service. With his leadership, guests of the Inn have enjoyed new offerings such as hosted excursions to local tours and restaurants, family activities on the Terrace with activities led by the property’s team as well as local businesses, expanded breakfast offerings, and more.

The team was further chosen by the Residence Inn Culture Council and other Marriott properties across the world to have earned the Most INNspiring Story of the Year for 2014, again out of 675 properties worldwide. This recognition was just icing on the cake for our team’s treasured memories of when we served as hosts of the 2014 Best Buddies Prom, a prom held at our Inn for local teenagers with disabilities. The Prom was an absolute sensation – and completely free of charge for participants thanks to the generosity of local vendors. As the Residence Inn culture revolves around ‘storytelling’, every property worldwide is encouraged to submit service stories each year to the Culture Council – this year we just knew our story would be about the Best Buddies Prom. It was such a wonderful experience, and to then have our story chosen out of hundreds submitted? No better feeling!

However, as thrilled as we were to receive such accolades, the recognition we earned as a Marriott Platinum Hotel for Overall Guest Satisfaction for the 3rd year since our establishment in 2009 was the tie that cinched it all for us, as that award is solely dependent on consistently delivering the kind of service that guests want to rave about on their surveys. We read our Marriott Guest Surveys daily and discuss them – the good, the bad, and the ugly! – at our daily huddles each morning, along with our TripAdvisor reviews. Even as Certificate of Excellence recipients, there are always opportunities to improve for our guests. Every department knows our strengths, as well as what we need to improve upon, and to have reached a point where we are performing in the top 2% of Residence Inns worldwide per our guests, and #1 hotel in Amelia Island on TripAdvisor makes every check-and-doublecheck worth it!

We work so hard every day to deliver exceptional experiences to our guests, and to reflect the legendary hospitality Amelia Island is known for. To receive confirmation that our efforts are effective is the ultimate reward. We will continue to deliver the caliber of hospitality that visitors to our island expect and deserve!
